I am interested in modifying an existing boolit using 3-D solid modeling. I can deternine the weight, sectional density, B.C. using this software. Pionters to any source(s) of mechanical drawings of existing production molds would be greatly appreciated. I'm mainly interested in thumpers, .44mag & 45-70.

Regards,

Chris

The Pat and Spence Wolf book "Loading the Trapdoor Springfield" has a few original military drawings of the 405 grain and 500 grain 45-70 bullets. These are the ones many molds claim to copy. The drawings are 140 ish years old but they seem detailed and complete. If you don't have the book PM me and I may be able to scan a few pages. They look like they'd model up quickly on something like Solidworks.

I'd point out that some of the 500gr shape looks like it is intended to narrow the point so it fits in the chamber/barrel rather than any aerodynamic issue. Just don't design an awesome bullet that can't be loaded.

Thanks for the pionter. I'll check it out.
