The group buy on the Lee C312-155-2R 6 Hole is now open. This will be exactly the same bullet as Lee currently makes, but in six hole configuration. Price is $56 delivered, but is subject to any price increase by Lee.

Send payment to:

Emmett Boaz
369 King's Grant Road
Stanardsville, VA 22973

Make sure your payment has screen name, email address, and phone number on it. I nearly went nuts keeping up with who was whom last time.

Interest level is high enough so I anticipate cutting off orders and placing the group order with Lee in early July.

Man you guys are going to break me.
I for three more of these 6 Cav. right now.
I ordered a single cav. of this bullet
and have $20 in it so the 6 Cav. to
me are a good deal.
I'm going to try this bullet in a 7.5X55
Swiss k-31. The K-31 brass has a short
neck. Add that to the K-31 short jump
to the rifling and you have your bullet
base past the neck into the case. If this
bullet works out in the swiss I just may be in for
one. OBTW... I lube this bullet in a Lyman 45 with a
.313 die then run it thru a Lee .309 push thru.
Makes a nice looking bullet. I have a .308 Lee
hammer thru die also but they stay at .309 so what
the heck . .308 is over sized I guess.

I am in for one, also. Will send my check the weekend of the 17th. Thanks for running with this, Emmett. This one will be useful for several of my rifles, I think.

Tentative count so far is 17, pending checks and me picking up my mail. That's pretty impressive in one week. I think we can count on this going off on schedule.

Emmett,
what are you going to be shooting this boolit out of?

Leftoverdj
06-07-2005, 12:00 PM
Jeff, so far I am shooting it from a couple of 7.62x39s and a .308 Win. Vance is getting good results in his NEF .30-30. That got to be a bit much for a single cavity mould, hence this project. Several of the folks in on this are shooting the Swiss 7.5x55 and Russian 7.63x54R.

I've been thinkin' (dangerous, huh;)) that this one might be worth trying in my Savage 99R .300.

Anybody used this boolit in the .300 Savage? Seems the single lube groove might make it ideal for the short necked Savage round; or am I missing something here?

...........Depends on your throat and leade. Check the photo below:

Naturally the Lee is the one on the right. The Lyman 311284 has a .300" nose and you can see how far back the engraving goes. The nose of the Lee is .302" from my mould and butts into the leade a bit sooner. If your Savage has a very short throat and leade, you might have to seat it a bit deeper into the neck. This was in my small ring Mauser.

Buckshot-

With a FLGC slug seated backwards in the case and chambered I get a throat measurement of .255"

Longer than most of my other Leverguns so hopefully I should be okay. If not I've got a couple of turnbolts (FR-8 and 03A3) that this boolit will find a home in.

Thanks for the response.:)

That's a quarter inch grid the cartridges are pictured against. If your lead at .308" is .255" from the casemouth then the .302" measurement must be similar to that in my 7.62x39 Mauser. Probably be just fine with this slug.

My concern was magazine length. It looks like that is a go, also. I'm still not quite sure that you can get it to engage the lands and still work though the magazine, but it will be close enough.

I've seen the Mosins,Swiss 7.5,K31,7.62x 39 and Mausers mentioned in this thread.

I have several of each. Would this bullet work well in ALL of them ?

If so, perhaps I need one...

Leftoverdj
06-12-2005, 11:18 PM
Moisins are iffy because of the great variations of groove diameter. If that is no greater than .312, it should work well. I'm getting good results in a Shaw barrelled .308 Win with these bullets sized to .311 and a friend is doing well at the same size in a .30-30 NEF. I can also vouch for superlative performance in a 7.62x39 CZ 527 with the GCs crimped on in a .314 die. The fellers shooting the K-31s are enthusiastic.

Folks will likely chime in on some other calibers. Because this is merely a six cavity version of a fairly popular existing single cavity mould, there is a lot of shooting experience available.

Hi, I started wondering what might be closest matching top punch for this boolit? I have only one pointed punch and it's the one I got from Floodgate for Aladin's HBC. Time to start searching if it won't be okay.

...........Finn it oughta work just fine. I have no idea which I use for the thing. I'm not anal about the nosepunch so long as it doesn't really mess up the nose. I probably used the same punch for the 311284 I shown loaded in the other case (check out the photo above).

If there was a problem with the lighter Lee sitting up too high in the punch used for the Aladdin Spitzer, wet some tissue paper and stick it up into the nose of the punch and then seat a couple slugs with it. It'll take the nose shape pretty well.

Yep. I'm not concerned so much about the nose deformation, but any possible centering problems are not good. HBC punch probably works well and I've used some crumpled household type aluminum foil to fill up mismatching FN-cavity before, so I think it's ok for this too if needed. Thanks.

.............Emmett, check written and in a stamped addressed envelope to be picked up by the humble civil servant Monday!

Sure am looking forward to casting these fine slugs up in quantity! However, I know that the old SC is going to have to be used once more before this new moulds arrives.

OK, Buckshot, you're in, even if the snail is slow. My plan is to tally the checks on hand Thursday and put in an order for that number plus five on Friday. Looks now like the order will be about 35. That's a whale of a lot of six cavity moulds for a one month ordering period.

Got so many last minute checks that I had to up the order to 45. Lee was grumpy, but did it. That covers everyone who has been in touch with me and leaves a few extras, but anyone who wants one needs to get in touch with me before sending a check. Don't want to be in the position of having more checks than moulds again.

This is a good bullet and it's very useful when you can cast six at a time. I got in on one of these special buys a few years ago after a posting on the
CB-L caught my eye. I trust you all know that you
ought to start by warming the mould by casting a couple in cavity closest hinge and then working your way out?
BTW, this is a CE Harris design AIR. CEH is also known for "Ed's Red" a homebre borecleaner.

PS: Has this order closed, I might know some people interested?

HotGuns, by my count I have three extras left, but I don't dass commit them right now. They are my insurance against a mislaid check or a check lost in the mail. If I don't need them for that, you get first call. I'll post when the moulds get in. That should be about two months.
