Just kicking around with powder for my 03 Springfild (High ser,#). Was using IMR-4227, only because I was givin 2lbs free:neutral: Now I thinking about using 2400 What your favorite loading:-D

PDshooter, I have the 311041 version of this boolit but I don't know if the design changed any when Lyman went to that designation. Any way, I've shot quite a few of them through my 03A3. With 2400 powder I started at 16 grains and worked up 1 grain at a time to 22 grains. I found the best loads to be both the 16 grain starting load and the 20 grain loading. The 10 round groups with those two were 2 3/4 inches at 100 yards. My BEST 10 round group with this boolit is with 32 grains of winchester 748, and that is 1 7/8, which probably was a fluke because I can't shoot that well.

PDshooter, I shoot the 311291 mostly in 03A3 along with other boolits. The 311291 is the 31141s sister. Same boolit with a different nose. My best load is 21.0/IMR4227 and a shooting buddy to whom I gift him match boolits for other considerations uses 2400 at [I think] 16.0. We both shoot pretty nicely and are more often at the top of the stack rather than the bottom at our mil bolt matches. Even my grandson shoots very well with the 311291 21.0/IMR4227 in a NO 03A3. I've used 2400 from time to time and it works well. The only consideration I have for it is that you need to get the pressure up enough to seal or it will blacken you cases. 16.0/2400 never seemed to be quite enough for the things I was doing, but that's going to be up to the individual application. sundog

I have been using 2400 in the 30-06 with charge weights from 16 to 20 grains. Mostly I use 18 grains.

I use 18 gr 2400 with the SAECO 196 gr bullet as my .30-06 match load in my Springfield for Highpower. It shoots great ! Out of a possible 600, I have hit into the 540s on unusually good days, and I almost always hit into the 5teens or even 520s.

I too used to use IMR 4227, but I switched because 2400 was a bit better for my .410 shotshells and .357 loads, and equally as good in the '06. I like to inventory larger quantities of as few powders as possible.

20gr gives a mild load and groups near MOA. If I remember correctly before I got a powder measure I used a 38spl case full for 20gr.

I use 18.5gr & that boolit with x-celant results in o3 & o3a3,,,I also use 2400 in three other cals. with great results ie: 7.62x54,,7.5x55, 8x57, sadly my m-96 swede just will not take it, patterns not groups:(
