hope you guys can help me with this, last weekend did some load development for my 30.06 and came up with 2 excellent loads for it at 50 yds.
first load consists of 20gr's of sr4759 with 180 gc bullet, velocity around 1600 fps.
second load-13.5gr's of unique with 200 gc bullet, velocity around 1400 fps.
i intend on doing some fun shooting at steel dongs at 200 yards and that's where i need your help,i could find that out myself but i want to avoid a unnecessary trip of 2 hours each way to the range.
Question - which of these 2 loads you guys think will be best for that kind of distance,
i know that at 50 yds they are extremely accurate. thanks for any reply.
Victor.

That is almost impossible to answer.some loads are great at short range and fall apart farther out.
I know it isn't what you want to hear but shooting them at 200 is the only way to know what they will do at that range. Those bullet weights should be capable of holding things together to be accurate that far out.

I would try both of them at 200 yards on paper because barrels will exhibit several narrow velocities that they like.

Well, sir, since I shoot SR 4759 in a 7mmTCU, I'd be a bit biased. But, bear with me, I shoot it to 200 yards! Umm...TC Contender handgun? I think the higher velocity load interests me more. That just means I have yet to try Unique, lol .

Load up some of each and try them out.I assume that you would try them at 200 yards first anyway.

Your 4759 load was still super sonic at 200 yards, while the Unique likely dropped under sonic speed somewhere on the way to the target. That will account for the difference of group size at the longer range.

I use 19grs of SR4759 with the 311041 (175gr) in the '06 at 200 yards in a 1903a3 and it shoots real well if I do.

Twenty years ago I shot in a cast bullet silhouette match frequently. I used 20/4759/311467 and it took down the 200 yard rams with ease, even with a fringe hit. It was an accurate and hard hitting 200 yard cast bullet load. I never put it on paper at 200 yards, but it was MOA at 100.

The rifle was an 03A3 in 30-06 with a 1-14 twist Phifer barrel. Sights were a long slide Lyman 48.

I need to try this load again in my current 03A3s, both have military 1-10 barrel. Both are 4 groove, one Remington and the other Smith Corona.
