Haven't been around much lately. Been busy and it's been winter and I ain't been shootin' much.

There was a thread here a while back and a fellow brought up sizing Ranch Dog .460-350's to .452 and using them in a .45 Colt. I had to try.

I sized them down in my Rock Chucker in a Lee push through die.

Understanding that lube grooves get REAL thin when you size a bullet down .008"
I lubed them in the sizing press with 50/50 and then wiped on a couple coats of LLA.

I used CCI 350 Primers, Starline Brass, and 18.0 grn. 296.

I loaded three just to chrony, all ran right on 1,000fps.

I loaded 7 more (I gots to cast more boolits!!) and went to the range this morning.
I finally held low enough to be on paper at 25 yards and the last round out of 3 hit just above my 3" bull on and 8-1/2x11" piece of paper.

Moving out to 50 yards, I shot high for the first 2, then held for the bottom of the paper and the last 2 hit almost touching just above my bull.

Not to get excited about my crappy shooting, but all bullets did hit nose on instead of sideways.

Guess I'll have to load some more and move my rear sight down a little.......

Hope your Bisley is stainless, that way you can pin in a new front sight blade, otherwise you'll be hitting it with the torch like me cause there isn't enough sight adjustment to make up for that heavy boolit :)

Greetings
An OK simple solution is to expoxy a brass rod piece (or whatever) on top of the front sight to get the barrel down to hit the paper.

Did a similar thing with similar results.

I used my cast 350g NOE (almost identical to RD) over a load of 24g W296 in my Casull, which is also a Bisley.

No chrono but I believe them to be moving @ 1400fps. They hit lower than my typical 260g load and right about where you said yours hit. I held low and they hit the black at 25 yards.

Fun to experiment. :)

I've done this in my 45 BisHawk, using the RCBS 45-300-FNGC boolit that refuses to cast larger than .457". I run it through a .459" sizer first to seat the GC and fill the grooves with lube, then through the .454" sizer. These shoot pretty high at 25 and 50 yards, but group nicely. Actual weight in WW metal is 324 grains/bare. Yes, an amended front sight would be a nice addition.

Don't know if I'll fool with changing front sights. I'm really liking this pistol with Miha's 270SAA bullet @ 1000fps-1200fps and want to keep that option.
I'm just thinkin' that heavyweight load would give something a terrible slap. Enough to warrant further experimentation.

Potsy, I have an assortment of boolits for the 45 Colt--454190, 454424, 454490, and a Lee 310 grainer in addition to the RCBS 45 rifle mould. Even the 250s give a pretty good smack-down. Come to think of it, the usual run of 45 ACP boolits from 200-230 grains will give quite a collision, too. They all start out at .45", and aren't liable to shrink.

One surprising attribute of the 250 grainers is their rather short and blunt profile. Catalog pictures give the impression of a longer slug--they aren't, really.

I feel your sight pain. Fortunately I was able to get a taller front sight from Ruger for my Stainless Accu-Sport. I was shooting the 340gr Cast Performance over 21gr H4227. I need to buy a mould near this weight! These shoot awesome in this gun. My 300gr LBT WFNGC just isn't the same accuracy-wise as the heavier boolit.

.45's do look stumpy. 429421's look like pointed boatail rifle bullets next to 454424's.
I was going to get a .44 years ago, but looking at those wide .45 bullets lured me to it. It just looked like it had more potential or something. The rest is history.
Oh yeah, they tend to make a hole as wide as the boolit too!!!!

My favorite boolits from the .45 Ruger are the 335 gr LBT and the Lyman 452651 that is supposed to be 325 gr but casts at 347 gr.
With 21.5 gr of 296 and a Fed 150 primer both have actually shot 1" groups at 75 yards from my Vaquero. Many deer have kicked the bucket with the gun.
