The last few days
I have been working on a idea as to why some of the 223 groups have flyers
Start at the begining
I have a 75 yard rifle range in the barn
Where I can shoot any time I like
Inside , no wind , rain ect
Nice solid bench
But last week my brother moved in the years corn and bean seed
Pallets of seed bags , all nicely wraped in cling wrap
He left me a path 18 -24" wide for about 1/3 of the way to shoot through
No problem
So I shot some groups out of the AR that has a 1-8 barrel ( single load , not mag fed )
A 20" barrel that shoots J bullets into tiny groups
As I shot some groups , some were great
Some good expect for a flyer
Others were mostly flyers
But when I walked between the pallets , instead of around
I noticed specks of bullet lube on the cling wrap
So that got me thinking :groner:
If lube flys off just a part of the bullet
Then the bullet will not be stable
Probely resulting in the flyers I was getting
So I got to thinking
I need to either get all the lube to fly off as soon as the boolit exits the muzzle
Exactly the same each time
Probely do able
But not by me , unless I have lots more time
Or use a lube that will all remain in the groves
Regaurdless of the velosity and Barrel twist
The load is NOE 70 gr sized at .225 , Gator Check , 20 gr AA2495 , Rem 7 1/2 in a Fed case
Just under 2400 FPS is my best guess , as I have not checked it yeat
This load has produced several 3/4" groups
But then throws flyers
With no aperant reason
Any ideas on how to get all the lube to stay in the groves ?
Would LLA work ?
Or dipping a hot boolit in melted lube and then Gas checking & sizing ?
I think I know what the problem is ( One of them at least )
Just have to figure out how to fix it
