Title says it. I want a 300 Win Mag #1B real bad and they stopped making them. I can buy a new 204 Ruger cheap enough.

By one in 7 Mag then the extractor is the right one and just rebarrel.

Need to use same barrel contour also for the hanger and the forearm.

You can buy the ejector you need for less than $15 with delivery expense.

By the time you pay a DECENT gunsmith to re-barrel the #1 with a quality barrel, your "cheap" .204 will have increased in price by about $700...I just checked the price-list at Alkali International (gunsmiths), which is close to my address. The action will accept virtually any cartridge, though.

I took a quick look at #1 rifles on Gunsamerica. There's a stainless/laminated #1 in .300 Win Mag, new-in-the-box for $1249 (#924205152). There's also #926383134, an as-new .300 Winchester for $800.

If you aren't fixated on the Winchester magnum, there are several #1 rifles there in .300 H&H....which I would prefer, being a handloader and dealing with the single-shot.....plus, there's the "romance factor" with the H&H.

Good morning
If the barrel has enough diameter do not overlook have it rebored.

Or rechamber 300 H&H to 300 Win maybe.

Gosh, nobody flamed me! The H&H is about .3" longer than the Win. 300. You'd have to set back the barrel (or make long necked brass outta H&H brass). 300 Weatherby would be a straight recut of the chamber. P.S. Several Win mags on gunbroker IIRC as low as about $700 US.

The ones on there are #1S, not #1B. I'm pretty sure I'll rebarrel.

$700 for a re-barrel seems a bit high, or I'm not charging enough for my work.

Why not buy a take off 30-06 #1 barrel off ebay and have it chambered to 300 mag, install the right extractor, i bought 2 of the 30-06 barrels 26" long and chambered to 300 H&H.
