Hi guys,

I have been reading some other threads and hear there might be a limit to using aluminum GCs I have just order 1000 of them and will be using them in a S&W 460mag, my question is has any one had any issues using these checks while pushing them about 2000fps? any big bore rifle shooters that may be using similar velocities/pressures?

The groups in my avatar were shot at 2000 fps. with alum. cks. from a 30BR.

Mugs,

That is some FINE shooting ! ! !

I don't think it is a factor of velocity but more likely pressure. I have still to do some testing but I have Al. checks failing in accuracy on loads that rate on the higher pressure side.

I have had a few tests on the Al GC and they are fine up to my 1900fps loads with faster powders but when I tried them on my 2400fps loads the AL GC resulted in less accuracy than the Hornady Cu GC. I have got similar exceptable accuracy at 2400fps with my own Cu GC to the Hornady so have ceased any testing of higher velocity AL GC. I thought there might be a correlation between the AL thickness, shanks dia and sizing dia as the AL GC that would just hold the shank was less accurate than a thicker (read double layer of AL) GC that was formed firmly to the shank. I started a thread to see if anyone had done more testing on this form down ratios but got little in the way of feedback.

Thanks for the info, sounds like i may have to keep an eye on them if pushing them to max pressure. I will keep you updated on how they go.
