I'm looking at having a punt on another Savage Model 99 in .250" Savage this time to keep my .22" Hi Power company.

The serial number is: 201443

Anyone, Gnoahhh, able to date it for me?

Sounds like a Model 1899 .250-3000 Take Down. If so, it should have a checkered trigger, not grooved as in other models. It was the predecessor of the 99 G. (They switched from calling them 1899s to 99s in 1920.) Neat find! I've been looking for a nice one for years.

This is the only pic I have of it at present. Will be going to view next week.

I have one of those. Lot of fun to shoot. Then it developed a variable head space. Never too short, just toooo long and it grew fast. Gunsmith said cost more to fix than gun is worth. Know someone who is aware of problem and my still want it. Discussions are underway.

I have a nice 1899 G in .300, but the serial dates later than 1920. I'll have to excavate it from the rear of the safe, but it sticks in my mind 1922-1925.

In the end I didn't bid on this rifle, upon viewing the barrel was well corroded inside so as to be useless. Shame really as it was a nice rifle outside. If the reserve had been lower I would have had a punt as you never know what might turn up in the future but it was too high for me for a rifle that wouldn't shoot. :(

Next time though. :D

I had one and was dead surprised at how accurate it was. With my best handloads the gun shot under 1" at 100 yards with a 2.5 scope. Average accuracy was on the order of 1 1/2" at 100 yards with Winchester silvertips doing best of all.
