View Full Version : Scrap Lead Pipe fast becoming my favourite alloy

I have taken to using only scrap lead drain pipe of which we have plenty at the metal recyclers. I like to get pieces with soldere joints in them as I use the solder as a source of tin in the alloy and then for toughness I dissolve a small amount of 'tinned' copper sheet into the alloy. The resulting alloy is self hardening and quite tough yet malleable. Seems to work just fine for rifle boolits. I don't know whether it softens again in time.

I agree with lead pipe. I think you make the best boolits with lead pipe ~ real pure. But I think coppered lead flashing is the pits. I can't get the **** out of it.

Agree, it works great. Lead pipe with 2% solder is my favorite alloy. Unfortunately my source is drying up and it may be back to WW for some time.

Coppered Lead flashing? What is it?
I just got some lead flashing and it left a ton of brown powdery crud in my pot. Could it be coppered lead flashing, or just impurities?
Thanks
