I've got an old H&G 230 RN mould thats fine, but could use a 200 gr SWC similar to the H&G #68...Yeah I know...Who wouldn't.

I've been away from this for a year or so...so not UP on whats NEW.

I'd like a 4 cavity and IRON...I know yous guys love those aluminum blocks...but those alum moulds dont seem to like ME.

I'm sure theres a Custom mould available in the old H&G #68 design...but by WHO ??

Closest thing I have found as of recent has been BRASS. 4 cavity, plain base Mihec H&G68

Thank You...I see your a dog lover as well. Great avatar.

I dropped Mihec a line...asked about the same mould. Hopefully it's reasonably affordable and available without a 90 day wait.

Talk about QUALITY!! WOW!

Might have to keep your eye balls peeled in the Swappin/Sellin section. I am not sure if Miha made any "extra" of these, but lets pray he did. :-)

Looks like this is all he has left of his over runs a 2 cav brass HP http://www.mp-molds.com/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=2&=SID

Last post http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?p=1207264#post1207264 says he has 3 of the bevel base left of the four cav brass . . .

Don't wait too long!

I like the Magma version, but it only comes in a 2cav. Redding makes a 3 & 4cav sim version, if you can find them.

I may have been in on that group buy...I have a few PM's from a year ago...but since I seldom visited this past year...I probably missed out.

NOT too crazy about a BB design but beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Just PM'd ref the moulds remining. Thanks for the HELP Gentlemen!

He also had a run of the same in a 6 cav alum - have one and my gun loves 'em!

Also found that Accurate Molds does an H&G 68. Three cavity...brass...but true to the original design. Things are looking UP.

I got in on the Mihec 200 gr. Swc brass mold GB. That mold is awesome. I highly recommend it.

Many like the H&G 68. And it is a very accurate bullet if your gun can launch it properly. But because of the high percentage of unsupported nose weight, that bullet has to be harder if you have a revolver that is less than perfect.

So I like the H&G 130. It is basically the same slug with the nose cut off. As a result, the center of balance is more towards the center than the H&G 68, so you have to drive it a little faster, but is more revolver friendly if the gun slams it around and it is more flexible for seating depth in autos.

Lyman make variants of these that do well also if you need an iron block.

I have a Saeco #068 in a 8 cavity mould . Excellent bullet ! they are also avalible in a 2 & 4 cavity mould .
if you dont have a Star L/S you may want the Saeco #069 flat base

Seems like LUCK has intervened....Mihac contacted me and I'm in for a flat base mould!!

Way back...a long time ago...in a Galaxy far..far away...I had a guy who would cast me PERFECT #68's the flat base slugs for $20 a thousand. I shot thousands of those out of 1911's at bullseye targets. And quite a few out of a S&W 25-2 that had the cyl throats bored to ALL match.

Happy to be able to go back in time a bit and have access to that great slug again. Ya gotta love this site!

Lyman makes a 4 cavity H&G #68 clone with Bevel Base I bought one years ago to replace my H&G #68bb that my used to be friend cleaned with a wire wheel. :-P

I'm not sure but isn't the H&G 68 similar to the Lyman 452460 200 gr. SWC. If it is I can highly recomend the Lyman version, It is my favorite .45 bullet.

The Hensley and Gibbs #68 was born in 1939 and beat all comers is that day. In 1940 Ed Rowland began using a similar bullets that had shorter nose, longer body and two lube grooves and it became the ruling bullets. This bullet was standardized in 1947 as Hensley and Gibbs #78. In 1949 Lyman produced it as 452460 and is still in their lineup.

I prefer 452460 as it has a few more grains weight and a longer bearing surface. But, in all truth I have never been able to prove it is any better than the #68. At least in my pistols in my hands. When 452460 is loaded to service velocity (800 and a little fps), it makes a very good all purpose load and shoots to the sights of most fixed sighted pistols.

I also have a 230 gr. RN and a 230 gr. TC but the 452640 200 gr. SWC is my favorite to shoot. Not that there is anything wrong with the other two it's just my preference.

You truly are very blessed. Everytime I drop boolits from my Mihec H&G68, I weep softly, not enough for anyone to notice. Kinda like that indian on the side of the road that cries after the guy throws a beer bottle at him. ;)
