For those wanting a simple way to machine flutes on a chamber reamer this devise can be made for under $80. A 60T gear will advance 6 deg per tooth so every 12 teeth will give an even spacing for a 5 flute chamber reamer or boolit mould cherry cutter.

A single gear

Very nice looking but a spin jig is less money, http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=505-2280&PMPXNO=951647&PARTPG=INLMK3
I use one quite often. Also have two of these that get used a lot http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PMAKA=203-4000&PMPXNO=953522&PARTPG=INLMK3

Nice work but i agree on the elcheapo spin jigs. Check out cdcotools.com. Very cheap import tooling that works great. I buy tons of stuff from this place.

Yea but it adds extra flavor to do it on a tool you made your self. Nice work there.

...............I agree. A certain amount of sublime personal satisfaction in using a tool you made for yourself. All you have to have is the time :-)

That seems to be the big issue, time. When you have to make a living at it there is sometimes not much time to make special tools
One tool I made years ago that gets used a lot is an off set live center for turning tapers without moving the tail stock. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l132/johnptaylor/Newoffsetcenter.jpg

It's interesting to see how other people deal with this. (The last thing you want to do once you set up your tail-stock for perfect chamber reaming is to move it.)

I assume the big flat on top is for a level?

Never had a level on it, it has a tab on the Morse taper that will keep it from turning very far. I usually have a pattern barrel for one I am profiling that I mount between centers and then use a dial indicator to adjust the taper.

Fine work!! when I first got into machining I made all sorts of tooling items and dubasaries(sorry machinist lingo for pretty much anything!) Anyway once I started doing machining for a living the charm of spending hours making things that I could buy for cheap wore out quickly!!! I made a copy of a bridgeport indicol (indicator holder that fits on the quill) Made everything. even the nylon washers-pinch bolts-etcetc... exact copy except raw aluminum finish.. Then I saw them on sale for $15.....Now that I am back to doing machining as a hobby maybe I will putter around again....OR...................

How tight do you set your gear lash on the indexing gizmo?
