The US Army officially adopted the Colt 45acp 1911 as their sidearm on this date, 100 years ago!~
Happy Birthday 1911!

The following link may take a while to load. Lots of pages and a lot of technical drawings and data.

I'm not quite as old as the 1911 but I bought one of the new Remington 1911r1s for my impending birthday.
It seemed like a good way to observe the centennial of the 1911 too.;)
Very nice job by Remington of recreating the GI issue look with a couple of tasteful improvements.
It shoots as good as it looks, keeping them all inside 2" at 50 ft when I do my part.

The price was right, just over $600.

I'm carrying one of mine today.
But that's nothing too unusual. It's usually either that or a HiPower.

I got an email from a friend today who instructs at Gunsite some:

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Browning designed Colt 1911 today.

What better place and method of celebration than at Gunsite with the 250 Centennial Class.

Colt is here today (including General Keys) for a historical presentation first thing this morning. We finish with a presentation this afternoon and display from the NRA Museum on the Military Trials.

As I said elsewhere, that green glow you might see today will be me, because of the envy.

I share a birthday with the 1911...sweet! The day, not the year. LOL!
