View Full Version : Would this barrel be good for boolits?

Digging through some old stuff, I found the original barrel for my old Ballester Molina. As I recall, accuracy wasn't so good. I never did slug it, wonder what it would take for boolit diameter?:)

Actually I think the only thing it would excel at might be birdshot, not sure it would be legal though.

Believe it or not, I think the rifling is even shallower than it looks in the photo. I guess this is what corrosive ammo and neglect do to a barrel.

Is it corrosion pitting? or is it a build up of gunk? Is the rifling that eaten away or are the grooves filled with carbon. If you haven't already, you might try scrubbing it with brass brillo pad strands around a bronze brush. Dip it in GOJO hand cleaner and see what will come out.

If it is corrosion, it might be useful for gluelits, but I don't see it useful for much else.

Looks like a "frosted" barrel to me.

Snakeshot?

Nope, not a buildup; totally rusted out and eaten away. I scrubbed the heck out of it before I chucked it 15 years ago. I just posted the photo for fun. I had thought about the snakeshot angle, but thought it might not be legal to put back on, since it's basically a smoothbore.:)

I remember when I bought the gun and first tried it out. The bullets were tumbling at 20 feet.

Why bother with it as those Argi guns take a standard Colt Barrel.

A 1927 will take a 1911 barrel. The B-M is a different horse.

My 1927 had a similar looking barrel, not that bad though.
