I got a chance to shoot some moly coated boolits I had picked up from a caster. This was my first time shooting boolits. My questions is this as I shot them I noticed a lot of smoke from the barrel also like black powder type????? Here was the loads I shot 4.6 gr titegroup .40 S&W 170 gr moly coated boolit. Is this normal?

If this is the wrong place for this please move it and I am sorry did not know where to put it.

Thanks again

It is the "moly". Titegroup is not a bad smoking powder.

That is what I was thinking the titegroup has not giving me any other problems in the past.

I have shot thousands of moly coated j-words and have not had any issues with smoke. Might be the suspension the moly is held in.

Or, probly the lube supplied on the boolits.

do you know if the moly was tumbled onto the boolits, as in a moly application kit? i mix moly in with my lee liquid alox. so mine smoke no matter what (lla smokes).

Not sure on the application....These where given to me to try out from a caster. Not sure if I give them the thumbs up or down yet. [smilie=b:

Years ago a company made a moly coating expressely for cast bullets you just put the bullets in the can with some and twerelled it around until the bullets were coated and then let dry
It did not work that well after about a year it was disconued .

Moly has advantages, I vibrate my swaged bullets with it as well as purchased jacketed bullets. I also use moly lube. It is best to have a well cleaned bore before you use it as moly goes into all the cracks in the bore. Second thought is that moly is forever, once you shoot it, it will always be there.

The instructions from NECO for moly coating bullets uses a wax in the final tumble. Many folks skip this step as do I. But the wax will smoke if your bullets are coated thus.
