I finally bought an early (1972 or so) Rock Chucker to replace the one that grew legs and walked off with my ex.

The press is good mechanically but could use a "freshening up" of the paint. I've done some searches trying to find info on the original RCBS dull green used at that time but can't find anything definate. It's NOT the metallic or hammertone green being used now, that's for sure.

Has anyone ever found a reasonably close match?

Check out the Buick green, '53-'65.... I used the Ford green on my pro melt, it's darker than the original color, but the price was right (I had a can on the shelf....:)

The old RCBS green was very close to Forrest Service "Safety Green" If you compare it to USFS trucks you'll see what I'm talking about.

I belive Rustolem makes this color. I have aKnife Grinder I made back in the 80's I painted this color.

The new RCBS green is a Hammertone Green .You might even find that in Rustoleum or in the Hammertone series of paints.

Yep, RustOleum Hammer Finish in the green tone is a pretty darn close match.
It isn't the two tone green/silver finish used on some of RCBS stuff, but I love that paint! The mahher finish gives it the hammered/orange peel texture and over time when cured is hard as a rock!
Good stuff.

My link below shows a RCBS Jr press I did in the RustOleum Hammer Green. (Actually, alomost all the equipment that was repainted was with the RustOleum.)

Plus, the RustOleum Hammer in green is a even closer match for my new Grizzly lathe!

Back in the mid 1980`s my brother had a similar problem finding "John Deere green" colored paint to re-paint the window frames of his general store.Robert

This is one I did with the Rustoleum hammered finish green. Don't remember what color exactly as there were a couple of greens at the Ace hardware store, but it does match pretty closely. Not exact, but close. And I think it was 5 or 6 bucks for a spray can.

Take a look at Rust-Oleum American Accents Leafy Green Smooth Satin Finish.

Wow that looks nice BCall. I have an old RC that could sure use a sprucing up. I did a Lyman Orange Crusher press a while back and it came out perfect using Krylon orange paint.

462...THAT'S a good one! In addition, there are two other greens that are also close, so I'll take the press frame with me for a match up.

I've become a Krylon fan in the last few years because it's such high quality and dries so fast, then seems to be bullet proof to boot.
