Has anyone used the Lyman 311299 or 314299 PP for hunting? Would be for the small deer in the area I hunt. Used in a 303 British at about 1800 to 2000 FPS

Either or will work fine. I use the 311274 and the 311446 sized .304 and patched back up in my SMLE. works great. Accuracy is as good as jacketed at full jacketed velocity or a bit more.

Thought maybe the pointed design would not expand well on a small whitetail?

With paper, you can match the alloy hardness to the velocity you will using. Pure lead works up to about 2200fps and is a real killer at that velocity.

Thanks, that was what I was planning to use.

Pure lead works up to about 2200fps ...Wow. That's not bad for pure lead!

So what you're telling me, is if I have boolits sized to .311" but wanted to run them in a .303 Brit, all I would have to do is PP them up to bore diameter? I have a 311299 NOE in the group buy coming, and I have a couple hundred 180 gr. Saecos sized to .311". They already have gaschecks, will that screw it up? Sorry for the somewhat hijack.

Slug your barrel. Size the bullets to BORE diameter +.001/.0015. Patch up to GROOVE diameter +.001/.003 or as large as will fit the throat. Dont worry about being over-sized. The paper will compress easily to fit the barrel. Gas checks hurt nothing, but then again they help nothing. The paper does the job of the check saving you more money. You will find that with paper you can load to full jacketed velocity and accuracy. PS. A powder that will give you as near as possible to 100% load density works best, IMHO. Match your alloy to your velocity and you you have a great hunting bullet.
