We bought out all the alloy from a failed bullet casting co. In among the items was 200 lbs of ingots stamped 10 Lead to 1 tin. What would this alloy have been used for? We were more interested in the 2,000 lbs of linotype.[smilie=s:

Elmer Keith wrote of using lead-tin alloy in his smokeless pistol loads; that would have been before WWII. Before the war, you added tin to harden an alloy, not antimony.

You can mix it with some magnum shot to stretch the tin out.
1 lb of 10-to-1
9 lbs of magnum shot
= 10 lbs of alloy with 1.00% Tin, 3.60% Antimony, 1.13% Arsenic, hardness @ 12

I have also read that tin "Toughens" the boolit, not necessarily used as a hardener.

I"m thinking of trying 20-1 for PP hunting boolit in my 270. gonna try 170gr at 2500fps

I agree, it's why I use 20-1 or 25-1 alloy for my LHP. They tend to stay together & not fragment like antimony alloys.
