I do not shoot semis so have no idea, but . . .

BUT

can the 357 Sig be built up on a 1911 platform?

Have a friend that is wanting to build a 38 Super, the Sig seems to be modern answer to that question.

Sure it could
but
why would anyone want to?
.357 Sig- an answer without a question....

Yeah........what Hammer said.

I haven't tried loading it myself, but from what I've seen and heard, the short neck on the 357 Sig presents some problems you don't have with the 38 Super(especially with cast boolits).

Go for the 38 Super

Short neck , cant shoot heaver bullets , less mag capacity , no tungstion carbide reloading dies, will have to lube and wipe off every case. Will the 40 cal 1911 mag work for the 357 sig ?
I would go with the 38 super [ i have 2 ] or 38 or 9mm super comp . these caliber are more versitile and used in uspa and ipsc shooting games , the 38 super with ramped barrels will almost match the 357 sig and the last 2 will match or exceed the velocity of the 357 sig

I have and shoot pistols in both calibers. They are both excellent calibers and give good velocity and accuracy. I load for both, plus 29 other calibers.

With that said, I'd go for the 1911 in .38 Super. The reason is they're already made and have a higher magazine capacity. In a single stack magazine that only means one or two rounds, but it is a factor.

Those who don't load or shoot the 357 Sig have no appreciation for the round. It's a good one and is inherently accurate. I have two of them and they are reliable and put the round right where the front sight is pointed when the hammer falls. It will also handle bullets from 90 grains to 147 grains.

The same can be said for the .38 Super, too. As long as the round headspaces on the case mouth, and not on the puny rim, it's an accurate round and will achieve the same velocities as the 357 Sig will.

Hope this helps.

The Idea behind 357 Sig is a short round that will fit in a 9mm frame. With a 1911 frame you have enough room for a 38 Super, 9 x21mm or whatever the latest thing IPSC boys are playing with.

I will pass it along.

And to think he could own a wheel gun!
