I picked this Marlin 1894 up a little more than a month ago at a gun shop. There was a bit of surface rust on both sides of the receiver. The shop owner wanted $150, it is a pre-crossbolt safety. The bore is mint and the action is perfect. I took it home and cleaned it up and here she sits. Now I just to find a cast bullet load that won't lead the barrel too much.

I would suggest taht $150 was a good buy. I picked up a 99 300 SAvage with surface rust damage with a good bore. Enjoy

Any 1894 for $150 that has a shootable bore would end up in my basement.

Go visit RANCH DOG's web site. Find the TLC 432 265 boolit and his .432 push through sizer. Go to marlinowners.com and find the bullet casting forum moderated by RD and read the sticky on how he lubes his designs. Get some LEE LIQUID ALOX and some gas checks for the boolits. When you have all the toys, go cast a bunch; lube per the directions; load them up and go create some empty casings.

This boolit feeds great in my 44 Cowboy Rifles and I use it to remove lead from an assortment of revolvers. I use the NOE plain base lube groove clone for most of my revolver shooting 'cause they ain't giving gas checks away and I don't need them for low velocity loads.

Go over to lasc.us and read Glenn Fryxell's article on 1894 MARLINS...read all of them and you will be educated considerably more. Conventional wisdom on MARLINS, micro-groove or ballard rifled (yours is micro-groove,) is gas check, hard alloy, lots of bearing surface, high velocity and large diameter...432 or larger for the 44s.

They ain't bench rest rifles, but some tinkering (and good sights) will get respectable groups. I shoot strictly off-hand, some Cowboy Action Shooting; and in the past, feral canines that persisted in aggravating the cattle or the cattle's owner. "There ain't no #@*, two legged or four, gonna tree me on my own place."

If'en you got a roller in the same caliber as that FINE Marlin and don't want to use them expensive gas checks, old Ranchdog will remove the gascheck feature from some of the cavities for a little extra before he ships the mold. Food for thought. Good Luck!!

Wow! You sure got a good deal on that Marlin. You will have many hours of fun working with that one! I have one that has somehow drifted to the back of the safe so I'll have to get it out soon again.
