Two thoughts...

1. Both Acurate and Hogdon has web sites with load data. If you are having computor problems fix the computor. Taking load data from unknown shooters on the Internet, that you can't/don't varify with the manufacturer is less than a good idea.

2. Yes, you can push a 185 grain SWC in a 45 ACP 1911 pistol 1,000 fps. But that is pushing the red line. You can drop that velocity 100 fps, for more accuracy and longer pistol life.

First, how old are your powders?

The reason I ask is, accurate no.2 has changed over the years. sometime in the mid 1990's, they changed suppliers, and it became "no. 2 improved" . Then, after a number of years, they dropped the "improved" name, back to just no. 2.
While reasonably close, the improved, and later, version is not the same as the original.

If you want the current accurate load data pdf, I can email it to you. you will need adobe reader to open it (it's a free download from adobe.com) Drop me a PM with your email address if you like.

Hodgdon's web site has the "load data center" that will give you the hp38 data. It's a web page, no download required.

The Accurate Powder data sheet is a PDF linked easily from their main page. If you can't download it, then I would suggest updating your Adobe Reader application. The Hodgdon loading data is a more annoying Java enabled program on their website but if you give it time, it works. AA#2 or HP38 will both work well for the .45 ACP in my opinion.

Both of those powders are very workable with the load you are asking about.

Myself, I've stuck with W231 for the most part. (It is the same powder as HP-38. Both are made at the St. Marks Powder plant in Florida, where it is called SMP231. Hodgdon and Winchester simply sell it under two different names with their respective brand-names.) My load is 4.5grs of 231 for a target load with the 200gr version of those bullets, or 5.6grs for a "combat" load with the 200gr SWC. Either of these will be safe with your 185s, but the lighter load may not cycle the pistol properly due to too low of a recoil impulse. 5.0grs would be a nice compromise.

Blammer.. YOu are correct. Maybe I can get a rebate on that speed reading course I took some years back.

i started with 5.5grs of no.2 and they seem to shoot all right, no feeding problem. The st. marks thing funny because i live about 5 miles from there.

+1 on what MakeMinea10mm says, plus "Winchester" IS Hodgdon, as far as powder is
these days.
