what does it take to fit a revolver cylinder to a revolver
I see a bunch of cylinders on gun broker and was wondering
what does it take to fit say a bisley cylinder to a blackhawk or something similar ??:bigsmyl2:

check the length of your cylinder and match it as close as possible. Longer is much easier to fit than shorter. I picked on up last year and it dropped right in and the timing is right. I've always liked the bisely cylinder and now I have one[smilie=w:

Well, there is OAL, Bushing length, and ratchet length. Most Ruger revolvers are close to the same, so your main goal is to get one longer than yours then file the bushing until it drops in and hope the b/c gap isn't too wide. I fitted one to a well worn Super I had. It had enough endshake that I used the Power Custom bushings on the original cylinder. One came up for sale on Rugerforum that was .007 longer than mine and I jumped on it. I fitted it tight as I could and was proud of how it turned out until I shot it. Seems there needs to be a thou or two endshake because mine heated up enough after a cylinder full to expand and bind up the action. It was also a bit tighter on the back end and I couldn't use Federal brass. So regrettably I filed a bit more off and now all is well. As far as timing, all the latches come thru the frame in the same spot so it should be within "tolerance". Here is the old Super after fitting.

Here is something really slick... Take a Super cylinder and rechamber it to min spec 45 for your Blackhawk. This is what Linebaugh talks about in his writings about the 45 Colt.

I saw the cylinder you were talking about if you like it I would jump on it. I paid about twice as much for mine. It dropped right in one of my .45's and was a tad long for the other. It shoots great. But to be honest Tek knows way way more about rugers than I do. I really wish I had his knowledge and skill.

No knowledge and skill here! Everything I have learned has been from sites like this and taking the plunge on my own revolvers. I figure if I mess up too bad I can sell it for parts!

I might do this change down the road to my Redhawk as well, since its a pretty simple change.
