OK... which dies are 9/16?

I need to make some expander plugs, I suppose I can use the same idea!

What is a compression plug?

It is for compressing black powder after you pour the powder into the case and place a card or poly wad on top and compress the powder down to allow the soft lead bullet to be seated on top. When you put 67-68 grains of black powder into a 45-70 case it almost fills the case not leaving enough room for the bullet to be seated. The height of the powder will be compressed as much as .300" or more depending on the bullet being used. If you tried compressing the powder black powder charge with the bullet it would be deformed and possibly not allowing the cartridge to chamber.

Since I don't shoot black, I never knew such an item was needed. I learn something new here every day! Nice job.

didn't know the case would deform if you tried to use the bullet to compress the powder. Thanks for the info

Yep, either the case or the boolit....or maybe both depending on how much you are compressing. I made a plug that would screw into my die for 45-70/45-90 using a 1/4-28 bolt, rounded off the head in a lathe. Can't remember right now, but you can calculate depth by the number of turns.
