I have an Encore 30-06 that I would like to come up with a good practice round with minimal recoil. I want to shoot a cast bullet, and I think I want to go with a GC on that bulet. I have two 8# kegs of RL-7 sitting on my bench with no home. So I think I would like to develop a good load for a cast bullet for my Encore 30-06. What bullet mold and load of RL-7 would you guys recommend for these parameters?? The rifle could also be used for deer hunting in the woods. Thanks, Tom.

The Lyman 311041 is a very good boolit for an '06, either for hunting or plinking. Usually weighs around 170grs and has a flat nose.

Others will have to give loads on RL-7 as I don't use that powder.

How bout a 115+/- gr. .32-20 bullet.
I shoot them out of my 30-06 and about 6grs. of Reddot (not exactly sure, lazy to look in notebook).
They shoot good for a no recoil plinker load.

Many RL-7 loads in a 30-06 will use a similar amount of powder to a 30-30 jacketed bullet load, and so the recoil is going to be like a 30-30. For minimal recoil loads, I would use something like 10-12 grains of Unique behind any 100-180 grain boolit.
