I've recently purchased a digital scale that has a range high enough to weigh boolits. I am using a lee tl452-230-2r mold. I weighed all of the boolits i recently cast that are not lubed. They range from 238.1 to 243.5 gr. A vast majority ar in the 240-241 gr range. I'm surprised because its a 230 gr. mold and any other elements that could be mixed in should be lighter. I cast with wheel weight lead so i'm not sure of exact percentages of metals. I have fired many rounds of boolits from this mold with good results.
So, my question is if anyone else seems to get heavier boolits from the same mold?

Thanx,
Ron

that's sounds about right from what i was getting. I no longer have that mold for various reasons

shagg,
Lee specifies that the claimed weight of their molds is arrived at using a 10-1 lead/tin alloy.
Wheel weights having more lead than 10-1 will weigh heavier.

shagg - that happends all the time. Not unusual. As long as they load and shoot ok, enjoy them. enjoy Mike

Without getting too technical, I found that the tighter I control both my mold and melt temperatures, the more consistent my boolits drop.

That said, your ranges aren't at all out of spec with the mold, and as mentioned before, if it's working good don't worry about it.

At 230 grains (nominal), a 1-2% variance would put your boolits in the 228-232 range, so you're doing well.

All our fancy measuring equipment is great, but sometimes the old adage about a man with two watches never knowing what time it is is accurate! LOL

If it ain't broke, don't fix it IMHO!

Using the same mould, I get an average of 234gr using wheel weights.
