Hi
Anyone use a Lyman 454190 in a .45 ACP case or Auto Rim in the 1917 S&W? Any suggested loads?.
Thanks
Moose

I'm surprised that nobody answered this, so I will even though I am comi g late to the party. The #454190 does not have a crimp groove, and in. 45 Colt brass was normally rol crimped over the ogive of the bullet. You cannot do this in. 45 ACP, Auto Rim or Cowboy Special brass, because the shank of the bullet intrudes too far into the powder space of the smaller case, which raises pressure dangerously.

Instead, seat the bullet out in ACP or AR brass, roll crimping the case into the top lube groove. A charge of 4 grains of Bullseye is a safe load which gives about 650 fps from my Webley Mk4 which has been converted to .45 ACP, or 700 fps from my New Service Colt with 5-1/2" barrel. I would expect similar results from your S&W M1917.
