Anybody casting from one of these moulds? I have a single cavity of this mould that I got way back in 1970 in a trade and in 40 years have never given it a try. I'm trying to decide if I should give it a try in my 1903 Springfield or just sell it.

I personally have had great results using spire pt. cast bullets. There is a catch to shooting them however.

You can't " hot rod " them. My best results are in the 1500 - 1700 fps zone.

In the 30-06 try them with 16.0 grs. of 2400. Try sizing your bullets at 310" or 311".

There they shine.....

Ben knows his "pointy" boolits. I do shoot these out of a 03a3 with the 16grains of 2400, and they do quite well.

Hey guys,

I am new to your forum, but I have been lurking for a while. I just got a 2 cavity 308329 Ideal. I haven't tried casting with it yet. What top punch do you use when you size them? I'm pretty sure I don't have one in my accumulation.

It calls for a 329 top punch. You'll either have to hunt for an old one, or make your own. If you contact theperfessor here, he is making some that you customize yourself with JB Weld/epoxy to fit the nose of your boolit. Might be easier than trying to find one of the Lyman's, and cheaper. There is a listing for one on Gunbroker, but $20 is a bit high for a TP.

Thanks BCall...
The smallest I cast is for 25-20 SS. That's a great idea for making tps. I have a lathe and have made tps before, but never for such a complicated shape. The JB weld obviates the need for a form tool....I can do that!
