Looks like a handy little carbine - Weaver rail for regular or forward "scout scope" and peep sights. I like the semi pistol grip stock too.

I wonder if the twist would handle 300gr and over?

Would make a fine hawg gun - my 96/44 runs dry in the heat of battle on a regular basis... [smilie=1:

Just make sure that you inspect the rifle before you buy it. Remington did not bring any of the old Marlin employees to Illion NY so they are new to making lever guns and have been putting on crooked front sights, and other problems.

And on the .44 see if they changed the darn barrel twist. The old 1-38 was not worth a darn. And I agree with Combat Diver with the new Marlintons.

the 1:38 twist is'nt anything to right home about, but my 44 marlin seems to do well with the lee 310.

Yep the Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag does OK with the Lee 310Gr Sized .432 as I did push that one pretty hard lol. But I would still only get 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 groups at 100 yards with it.

But if Marlin or is it Marlinton does the right thing and changes it to say a 1-20 twist then we would have something. Oh and please do not forget to fix the darn overbore problems.

if they don't get there stuff together, barrel twist is last thing they will have to worry about. :x

Been looking for one of those from my distributors and almost NO Marlins are available since the move......least of all that one in 45-70 but MAN the prices! I've found a few on gunbroker etal, would like one in 45-70 or any Marlin in .357 and the prices are just through the blasted ROOF.............

I handled a new Marlin 1895 SBL today, and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It was surprising how much different it felt than a Guide Gun in the same 45-70 caliber. It was a new Marlington, and a bit rough around the edges, but still interesting, and probably lots of fun. It was good to see any new Marlins at all.......... been kind of scarce around here for a while.

Sorry if I jumped into your thread with the wrong gun......... my bad.

Some 45-70 SBL's have come out with the dovetail cut on the barrel for a guide gun, someone in alaska got one and they won't do any warranty work on it.I wouldn't buy anything from them that I haven't looked over first, quality is way under what it used to be and they don't seem to care.

i have a new sbl.when i got it the chamber had a big gouge in it.the action was just ok.i sent it back and they re barreled it and what ever they did to the action worked.i was very skeptical at first as i sent it back, but now i'm very happy with the repairs.

Yes, the GBL (not SBL I learned) that I handled today was a bit rough around the edges. The trigger plate didn't fit the receiver very well, rough action though that just felt like burrs here, and there. I didn't look in the barrel. Still, they are trying to get them up, and running again, and I sure hope they do, and do it well once they get their feet under them.
