I've heard of a Plainfield copy of the M1 carbine.......would that be it?

Here's a link to the Plainsfield carbines.

I've got two M1 Carbines, CMP Underwood 2-44 returned from Bavaria and Austria and the other is a EFM. My wifes great uncle was David Marshall Williams who designed the short stroke gas system for Winchester on the carbine.

I had several plainfield carbines back in the day and they were pretty good but not great. The Iver Johnson ones were built on the same machinery at least they looked and worked the same and I had several of them as well. The only problem I ever had with them all were the gas cylinder. I had two that broke off and one that cracked in use. The factory fixed them all and then I sold them. The GI carbines never had that problem. Also One Iver Johnson I had had soft metal in the bolt and the locking lugs were peaning over when the gas cylinder cracked so I sent it back and they put a new bolt and barrel on it under warranty. Personally I would buy and GI or Auto Ordinance Carbine over the Plainfield, Universal or Iver Johnson carbines.
