I was swaging some bullets today and got to thinking that a 40 S&W case is not really that much bigger than a 9mm Luger case. I got a handful of 9mm cases and annealed them. Then I used a 170 grain 30 caliber bullet for the core. Ran them through the swageing die and they came out real nice. I haven't loaded or fired any of them but I see no reason for them to not work. The finished bullets are 224 grains with a deep hollow cavity. I'm going to post a couple pictures. In the first picture the center bullets are from 9mm cases and are flanked by bullets from 40 S&W cases. Second picture is from 9mm cases.

Those look great! Did the rims on the 9mm cases bump up to .429"?

That's also one huge hollowpoint! I thought mine were big, but those are BIG!!

Rim swaged up to .415 to .418. Just ahead of the rim is .429. I'm going to make some more later to see if the results are repeatable.

Yep 9mm cases work good to. I have made a few but haven't shot any yet. The rim I have got to .425 which I feel is certainly close enough since the rest of the bullet is allready .429. With a core seat die you can get a 9mm rim all the way up to .429 but the one step technique will produce quite a bit of pressure to try and get the 9mm rim all the way up. Bullets should shoot just fine even with rim of bullet small. Consider it a bit of a boat tail I guess.

You will notice the rim is the last thing to swell to final bullet diameter and as long as you got the majority of the bullet's barring surface up to .429 I expect the bullet will exit the barrel in exactly the same dirrection you are pointing it :)

Nice work

How about a 158 grain .358 core with the 9mm case for a 220 grain .429? Should make an great bullet! Or a 140 grain .358 core for a 200 grain?!!!!!!!

You can do anything when you make your own.

Keep at it guys!

Good shooting

Perfect!

You allready noticed exactly what I was talking about. Everything in frount of the rim is .429. Your good to go!

Hmmm, wonder if a derimmed, trimmed .38 Spl case would work.

I made it to the range yesterday with some of my .429's from 9mm cases. Bullets averaged 221 grains after swaging. Make up of bullet is 9mm brass and core is a .357 bullet cast from range scrap. Load was 17 grains 2400 with OAL 1.630 in 44 Mag cases. Accuracy was very good at 25 and 50 yards. What really impressed me was the recovered bullets. Some are expanded to as much as .820 with out seperating from the 9mm case. Weight retention averages 96%. These are really nice bullets.

Awesome!

Retention is every bit what I have seen with the 44 cal bullets from brass cases!

Great bullets! I think the advantages of these brass jacketed bullets are really starting to shine!

Does anyone feel like a pioneer yet in a shift of thinking reguarding traditional bullet designs :)

Good shooting and Swage On!
