View Full Version : An improvised wind screen

It's gets kinda breezy here from time to time and that makes smelting outside a little difficult. I converted a large aluminum pot that I had no use for into a wind screen. I cut the bottom off and slotted the sides to fit down over the cross member supports.

And it works well too Jim. When I made one of my casting pots from a propane tank there was a "skirt" around the botton of the tank to help it stand upright so I cut the bottom out and hed it welded further up to give a longer skirt and did as you did to make a wind break. Makes a lot of difference to the amount of heat needed to melt and keep the melt hot. Much more used than yours but the effectiveness is undimished.
