RVO powder type

In the early '90s I was using some RVO powder for a 257 Banshee. Does anyone know what RVO 65 and RVO 62 actually were? Thanks!

I use 4831 data and get 4831 velocities in 6.5X257 and 30-06.

Thanks. I'll look at that. I would like to know what surplus powder the RVO was. I'm sure they just put an arbitrary number on it. The developer of the Banshee was getting 4000 fps on a 100gr pill with 89gr RVO 65 and a .628" 100yd group. I'm just cranking-up my Banshee and would like to get similar velocity.

I have a data sheet from a jug of RVO-62. I tried to send it to you via e-mail but could not attach it to the message. Please reply to my e-mail and I'll attach the Data sheet when I reply.

From the data sheet it appears RVO-62 is closer to H870 than anything else.

I can't help you with RVO-65.

that was me, and I was using a 1.200" diameter barrel, back off a couple grains in a standard diameter barrel. I could never figure out what it was either.

and from what I can remember talking to them (RVOP) WAY back when I bought my jug it is very . . .VERY likely that is was a lot of WC-852. I will look on my jug and see if there is any info. I have their data sheet here some place also if someone needs one.

Years ago I was talking to Jeff Bartlett about milsurp powders and he mentioned that he was surprised at the wide lot to lot variations on "powder speed" that was acceptable for the Government, especially with one particular powder. It is far easier to work with a variation in lots if one gets tons of a powder in a lot and load to a pressure, velocity, accuracy standard and the powder measurement in grains is unimportant other than making them all the same.

Contrary to what is posted on the Cast Pics site ( they only posted two out of three tidbits of information they were given) there are three differ lots and relative burn rates of WC-852 out there (4831, H-380, and the third I have long since forgotten).
