I shot my Chrony. The good part is I didn't kill it-just winged it. I managed to clip the upper corner of the rear sensor box with a Lee 105gr out of a .380. Other than some bent sheet metal and shattered black plastic, it works as good as new. I bent the metal back in shape, but the holes for the diffuser rod on that side are gone. I sent an email to the company asking if it is possible to buy just the two piece plastic housing for the sensor, but haven't heard back yet. Has anybody ever been able to buy parts other than the diffuser screens and rods listed on their parts list?

I have had two shot over the years. One I have now, my son shot with a 9mm. It stood up well with only a dent. (tough machine). The one I had before wasn't so lucky. Rifle did it in. (that was me and an 8 X 57 mm) They replaced it at a very reduced price. Been many years. Don't know if they still do it. Won't hurt to ask.

Just from what I have personally seen and heard, I think a small cost will repair and IF you so desire, possibly up grade your Chrony.

I had one of the ones with the cardboard to shoot through and they got so ragged I figured it was time to buy some new ones.

Well they didn't have those any more, but for a reasonable cost, I could send in my old (red) Chrony and receive a much updated unit. [smilie=w:

Quack, call them up at their NY number and talk with Mark (or anyone there, for that matter). They're pretty customer-oriented folks, and might give you some trade in or just fix it if the repairs would be less than a new one.

Well, it certainly doesn't look like the damage was via Gas Check

CORRECT, IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A GAS CHECK!

I did have a GC come off and hit one of the plactic diffusers. bit hard on them!

I have started using the "U" shaped plexiglas pieces available from Chrony which slip over the the sky screens.

They work well, the rods for the diffusers go right through the plastic.

Just seemed like a low cost extra to help prevent damage.

On my old Chrony, one with the read out on the front, I once had some lube cause damage to the thin plastic sheet over the read out.

So, when I upgraded, the plastic protectors just looked like they made sense.

Two tips for Shooting Chrony owners:

Get a package of bamboo cooking skewers. They snap clean rather than somersaulting your machine into the rocks like those wire rods do when you clip one. Cheap, too.

Cut new diffusers from a round one-gallon antifreeze jug. You can get one extra-wide strip or two narrow ones from a single jug. Just punch two holes for the skewers. That translucent plastic is even better than the originals. And, again, cheap.

I bought a replacement a few months ago. They have repair parts on their website. It came with new rods and diffusers. Now I have extras.

Seems like it was $35.00/$40.00 and some freight ($60.00 now). Good people to do business with.
My old one developed a 1/2" hole in it. I have it hanging in my garage as a reminder.

I bought some replacement parts from them about a year ago. It was no problem. Call them and I'm sure they'd help you out. I am pretty positive you are not the first to have shot one! I keep thinking that one day I'll do the same!

Coot- I made a plastic guard for the readout, put it on before I ever used the chrono- stops lube damage and hopefully would stop a check.

Although I don't often use the diffusers, usually shoot in the evening after work and the sun is low enough that it doesn't bother the sensors, I use wooden dowel rod from Lowes to support the screens. About $.50 for a 4' length.
Gear- I checked for a phone number for the NY office and only got the number for the office in Canada. I'm still waiting to get a response to my email to them. I'm at work now and it is easier for me to email than call anyway. If I dont get an email response today I'll call the number in Canada.
Got the metal bent back and taped up the missing section of plastic to keep out the dust and keep any light from entering the side that might keep the sensor from seeing the bullet.
Kind of ugly, but it works.

Got an answer to my email- new sensor box is $10.00
