Pretty sure there are concerns with very light loads and 4350. I would be wary.

BobS posted that he used 42 grains of 4350 under a 311284 with good success. The 311284 is significantly heavier than the 311291.

I can't remember off the top of my head how heavy 311291 is (heresy, I know), but I've used 38.0 grains of H4350 with 311332 which is about 180 grains, and it worked well with the exception of every once in awhile it wouldn't chamber the next round. Basically in my rifle it was a little on the soft side as far as port pressure goes. I was going to try 40 and 42 grains, but I haven't done much shooting of cast in the M1 lately.

as others have mentioned 4350 is a poor choice for reduced loads. If it is your only option, you might consider using a filler to take up the air space. Jim recently added a good article on Kapok as a filler to castpics.net

If you have other options, I'd go a different direction.

I seem to recall that slow burners are NOT recommended for M1s becuase of issues with bending the operating rods. IMR 4895 is supposed to be ideal. You were warned.

This does not hold true for cast loads

You are both right. At full load pressures, slow burners are not recommended in the Garand. This can be remedied with an adjustable gas plug if you want to use full loads of slow powders. It can also be remedied by using substantially less than full loads which never develop enough pressure to damage the op rod to begin with. It should be noted that gas port pressure and chamber pressure are two very different things though and that just because a load has the same chamber pressure as 4895 doesn't mean it is safe to use in a Garand.
