:coffee: ----My favorite milsurps are the K-31 and the M38 Swedish Mauser--There in my trunk every time I go to the range along with a few others and a pistol or two----I really should rotate the guns so they all get a cleaning and oiling . I don't know why but I seem to be itching to get another gun or two.------Mag

...................1891 Argentines. Possibly first and a half most favorite would be the 1908 Brazilian contract Mausers.

You have to admit that the Swedes are great shooters, but they never pressed my buttons I'm afraid.

I have always had a soft spot for the M17s, I have two Remingtons, a standard one and one with a Parker (old, pre Parker and Hale) target peep sight which uses the standard foresight and two ugly boy Eddystones, which have been set up as target rifles. I have a rough barreled Eddy P14 which was issued to the Dutch Navy and I will be putting it on the block as I have just picked up a mint Eddy P14 complete with long range sights.

I am determined to get the No4s cranking as well. I like their lines.

I have always fancied Springfields, but have never seen one in Australia that didn't have a crappy barrel.

I have a MAS which is an ugly sumbeetch, but it does shoot! I also picked up a Berthier and that will be a challenge.

They are like lever guns, stylish sporting bolt guns, single action revolvers, fine double action revolvers and cool auto pistols, very habit forming! Did I mention single shot BP cartridge rifles and classy shotguns?

FN FAL....my favorite milsurp. Although one that must be "built".. :) Guess that kinda takes it out of the milsurp category, then I must go with the Mauser type...they all work for me.

My favorites are my Schmidt Rubin 1911 and my Persian Mauser. Can't decide if I like one better than the other.

Swedish Mausers and the Swiss K-31. The first time I had a Swede M38 at the range I had shooting a Ruger M-77 6 mm with a nice 3x9 scope and was shooting an inch or so. I picked up the Swede, with those tiny sights and fired 3 shots that were all touching. I couldn't believe it! My buddy said "Well, I guess that is why they haven't been invaded recently!" :)

Model 1903 Springfield, with M1891 Mauser hovering silently in the background.

My favorite is my M1 Garand followed really close by the K31 and Model 24/47 Yugo I have. I just love blasting with the M1 since I found a cast bullet load that works!

They all take turns being favorites. Right now it's my "new" K-31.

I like Lee Enfields simply because they have a long history in Australia and because no matter what conditions your in they work!!!!

All time favorite milsurp is the recently aquired, excellent condition 1891 Argentine Mauser. Workmanship and accuracy are both top drawer. Second is a very decently sporterized and carbine converted 1898 Krag. The Krag carbine is a very fast handling hunting rifle, rich in historical association. Third is a 1943 Fazakerly No. 4 Enfield. Also historic, (Gold or Sword Beach on June 6, 1944?) and my hands-down choice for "well regulated militia" service.

M48 Yugo Mauser.

Is there a better rifle, just for pure shooting pleasure, than a Mauser of some sort?

I try to shoot everyday, and somedays in between groups I'll just look at the Mauser on the sandbags, admire it's beauty and work the action. To me, it's the purest form of a rifle there is. Mine was made more than fifty years ago, half way around the world, in a military arsenal and it's level of fit and finish will shame most mass produced commercial rifles today. And I consider mine in "decent" condition. I can't wait to acquire a pristine example!!

The Krag absolutely! I also like my 1908 Brazilian Mauser as well. I notice a couple nods to the 1891 Argentine Mauser. I've been looking for one now a couple of years but just haven't seen one to buy...Ray

LEE EN FIELD.

Actually I would really like a FN49 and a Garand but I hate chasing brass and both rigs in lil ol New Zealand cost a bomb.

At least you can buy them Jeff.

I'm glad someone else likes the fn-49. I have one in 30-06 that I love. Shoots very well when I can put a good hold on it.

Boy, they are a nice rifle. They hit the shops here in the early 80s.' I wanted one real baddddddddddddd. Unfortunately I sold soft drinks (soda pop) off the back of a truck at the time and it was in the middle of winter and I was busy using what little money I was making feeding kids. They were an excellently made, quality arm though, imagine what they'd cost to make nowadays. Mick.

I guess my favorite rifle out of all my mil surps would be my No4Mk2 Faz Enfield. Took her out of the wrap and broke her in myself. Developed a great shooting load using 174 gr Sierra Match Kings and IMR 4064. Shot a couple of mil surp bolt matches with her. Did pretty well too!

Lee Enfields! Particularly the 7.62 conversions on the N0.4 action. My DCRA and L39A1 will shoot rings around all of the "high-Power" competitors at my gun club. No one takes you seriously when you uncase one of these. 16 grains of 2400 and a LBT .310-180 Sp boolit seated out to touch the rifling. Parker Hale or A. J Parker sights help a bit with 60+ old eyes, but I regularly out shoot the guys with their Mattel-black plastic rifles and telescopics at 100-300 yards.

Krag for me--isnt this a fascinating thread? I keep wondering how some of these clunkers got to be anyone's favorite, but I'll just keep quiet on which...........Different strokes and all that!

K31 followed by the 03A3. The Garands just don't do it for me, I have a couple and only break them out for the Garand matches.

Easy choice for me.. Krags and 03/03A3 Springfields. They are no longer cheap mil-surps, but they were when I got mine. Krag No. 1 cost me $15.00 and the 03A3 cost me nothing. It was on it's way to the dumpster when I caught it on the fly. It is a minty Ogden rebuilt.

My favorites since I have started my humble collection are my "68 " dated Finn. M39 and my 1934 Finn. capture 91/30 and in a close second is the #4 enfield . All 3 just feel right and natural in my hands and are the rifles i started shooting comp. with and still do from time to time. And there is just something about holding a rifle with that much history with it. I just dont get that same "feeling" when shooting my non Milsurp rifles.

Amen RU shooter, about holding history. If these guns could only talk, imagine the stories they could tell us.

Favorite MIL-SURP I own: Fin M39, followed by the Fin M28. I have a few Russian models of Three Line Rifles ( 91/30, M44 and Model 91 Peter the Great), but the Fin's are the more accurate, and more "military" in feel (if there is such a thing). I've never shot my Russian capture Mauser, but it's in pretty rough shape.

Favorite MIL-SURP all time: US Service Rifle M1 (Garand). Amazing rifle in it's time, and even today.

My holy grail MILSURP: any original surviving rifle in OK shape, built by a registered gunsmith from the French Indian/Revolutionary War period. Just dig the history...

I have a few of each most are M96's, I shoot them the best. But then I like the M94 for a woods gun...

My favorites would be the Swedes, especially the M41's, with the sharp scopes, the Ljungmann and Hakim's, The FN 49, and a tip of the hat to Buckshot for mentioning the '08 Brazilian- very accurate even with the mil surp bought from Samco.
