A friend gave me a little lead for casting (there is more to come). It was his fathers and a lot of it is easily identifiable as Linotype and a lot of it is plumbers lead. The question is the lead that has been melted into ingots how do I identify it. Its over 40 years old so I know it has seasoned enough to harden a little more than normal.

The stuff in ingots you'll have to guesstimate by hardness or take it to a salvage yard that will shoot it with an analyzer.

Oh, and welcome!

Regarding the bucket on the right: if that round chunk of lead on top weighs 31-31.5 pounds it's an isotope lead core. (96% lead, 3%antimony, 1%tin)

It's BHN should be around 10-11 and a typical use for it would be the same as clip on wheel weights but you don't need to add tin for good fillout.
