I found a Ruger black hawk in a 30 carbine anybody interested. I think it was going for about $400...Good price or not? I have the phone #
Looks like new never been shot, very nice shape..The wood looks like it has been handled a little, but the bluing is perfect.

Not sure about the price

But if you do buy it
If you shoot factory ammo
Use both ear plugs and muffs

Loud do not even come close

That is a good price for one Randy. They are a blast to shoot, but they are loud have very little recoil and are also fairly accurate. Used mine for plinking mostly but I have shot a few hogs with it too.

I may be able to get it down to $375 ...What are they going for...It's only the second one I have ever seen.

Loud does not describe it. And I haven't been able to find a load yet that recoils.
I like mine pretty well.

Yeah, they're around. There's always one or two on gunbroker. Used guns have really gone up in the past few years so yes, $400 is a decent price. Next year, $400 will be a steal.

I bought one new about 6 years ago for $350. So $400 seems pretty reasonable, especially if its in good shape. If you want the wood to be perfect you could always get replacement grips from Ruger. They're a lot of fun to load for. I also have been using 32-20 cases that are slightly modified. Accuracy is good, recoil is not bad, but the muzzle blast is spectacular. When using GI carbine brass its a handy sidearm companion to my regular M-1 Carb.

Why not start with 350 cash on the table as a starting point?

I think it's the frequency of the noise - as the bore gets smaller the Freq. goes up the 45's for 44's boom, 357's blast, the 30 carbine is like sonic drill - plugs and muff's required.

dealer cost is 365 I got one off gun broker, older but in good shape last fall 300
The 311359 is a very good boolit and not bad on recoil or ears. Mil ammo as said plugs and muffs
I will use the rifle to get rid off the mil stuff from now on

.32-20 data can tame the beast.

I just picked up on off Gunbroker for $350, including a mounted older Bushnell scope.

There are deals out there if you are patient.

You may have nailed the reason these critters are so loud. My 32 Magnum and 7.62 x 25 are similar in nature--louder than Purgatory's house band.

Well, for all of us .30 Carbine Blackhawk owners, it looks like someone has a new mold design out that would be the bee's knees:

I better go home and strip copper wire so I have some spending cash.

I enjoy my 30 carbine. The carbide dies make 30 carbine relatively easy to load. And I can just drop a 32-20 round in the cylinder and it shoots every bit as accurately as the 30 carbine. I have not used the carbide 30 carbine dies to reload a 32-30 case shot from the Blackhawk, but the idea has a lot of potential. And besides you should be able to purchase it... after all I bought 3 pounds of beeswax from you last year :bigsmyl2:

I have owned a BH in 30Carbine for 35yrs. PLEASE if you buy it heed the advise on hearing protection. One round w/out good protection and you will have a permanent case of tinitus.

I've always wanted to convert one to .30 Reece. I wonder if that would be any louder?

Not with full-potential rifle loads, you won't.

I had some fun with my new one a couple days back. Once I got the wind doped, I laid 110 grain FMJs into my range's 100 yard iron coyote cut-out with aplomb. Way fun! Pretty stiff breezes, had to hold on the steel critter's derriere for a center-mass hit. Stinkin' wind.

The recoil however is almost non-existent. I know of no other gun where the noise to recoil ration is this slewed. Talk about lots of bark, not much bite!

It is a fun gun however. I really like mine.

Buy it and shoot it. If it is made by ruger it must be fun

What did you say? :???: I think that's why I favor quieter guns now - I do have a 30 carbine T/C barrel but I'm going to have it threaded for a suppressor, should be great wilth heavy cast bullet.

Good morning
I do know one of these BHKs was a fun way to spend afternoons bouncing about an M60A1 TC hatch and keeping jack wabbits occupied with excess WW2 ammo that inhabited the impact areas about Ft. Hood.ī Far more accurate than shooting Gibsonīs 45 ACP out of my rattle trap caliber .45 .

Way back in the late 50's my Dad had done some work out at the old Raritan Arsenal in NJ and came home with TWO full cases of Carbine ammo. I still have one of the wooden boxes BTW.

A dozen years later wanting to burn up that ammo I bought a Ruger and had at it. Had great fun with the gun...our fairly closeby neighbors didn't have so much fun. That thing was LOUD.

In the mid 70's I even used it as a Metallic Sillhouette standing class gun. Had a lot of fun with it.

Pachmayr Presentations went onto mine within a week of purchase. These feel much better than those skinny stocks that it came with. Buckshot had a set on his BH 30 that he showed me, and their feel prompted an immediate purchase whose arrival coincided with the revolver's release from State custody. Much mo' bettah.

Al, Congats on your 7,000th Post!!!!:drinks:
I just put one on lay away at my local gunshop. Total w/o Tax was $370. I was able to talk him down from the $400 he wanted for it. It has Factory grips presently, but will have Presentations on it before it hits the range.

Well THANK YOU, Justin. I hadn't noticed until I came back just now after doing the bill paying bit online. And CONGRATS on the new-to-you rollerpistole, too!

The reason a Ruger Blackhawk is so load with factory ammo is due to one thing. That thing is the factory ammo is loaded to be used in rifles or carbines. The powder used is slower burning powder, similar to 2400 and H110. When fired in a short barrel, even 7-1/2" is short, there is considerable unburnt powder at the muzzle causing a terrible muzzle blast.

Hand loads using a powder no faster than Unique will cut the muzzle blast way down. Winchester 231 will make the 30 Carbine sound like a 38 Special.

Try it, you will like it. I do.

I see this loud gun subject and the 30 Carbine revolver mentioned time after time and no body seems to understand what is going on. Funny, I figured it out real quick. I couldn't stand the noise.

I might give that WW-231 powder trick a try. I don't regard the blasty report with negativity, it's just a "product characteristic". :)

I load my 357 BisHawk (also a 7.5" barrel) with a full case (100% load density) WW-296 powder, just like the 30 Carbine and its full case of WW-296.......and the 30 BH is still louder. The 357 has a larger volume of powder operating at same/similar pressures as the 357, but is louder.

It is what it is. Is performance with the WW-231 loads anything like that received by the 2400/H-110 loads?

9.3X62AL,

If it is performance you are looking for, stay with the slow powders. If shooting for plinking, paper punching or just general fun shooting without the cannon blast 231 or Unique work great, but maximum velocities will be about 400 fps lower.

Be sure to use load data intended for the pistol and not the rifle.
