My son bought a Taurus PT-111 and I would like to get him started reloading for it. Does anyone have any experience loading cast boolits for this model? I am thinking of trying a Lee Round nose or truncated bullet mold, non tumble lube. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Swede, slug the barrel first thing. I had a PT111 and it was terrible with lead because the boolits I liked for my XDs were too small for the Taurus. I am sure you can get that pistol to shoot lead but I, with the other guns I liked better, just sold my PT111 to a guy who liked jacketed. Remember boolit fit it what it's all about.

KYSWEDE:

I have a PT-111 and a PT145. Both are 3rd Gen. My PT-111 barrel slugs out at 0.3565." The PT-145 slugs out at 0.453." Chamber dimensions appear to be generous in both, but I haven't measure them. I shoot a Lee 358-140-SWC sized to 0.357" in the 9mm and a Lee 452-228-1R unsized in the 45; both casts of #2 alloy and lubed wth Lee Liquid Alox cut 50/50 with laquer thinner. With a mid-range load of Bullseye, both function fine, but the 45 leads after about 10 rounds and then doesn't lead anymore. Accuracy in the 9 is good. The 45 suffers a little, I think from the leading. Still working on the 45 load; thinking a softer boolit/slower powder might be the thing. Both throw brass from here to kingdom come. I don't think you'll find feeding a problem in the PT-111. The feed ramp is polished smoother than a baby's butt from the factory in both the PT-111 and PT145. I did recently acquire a Lee 356-124-2R six-banger but haven't casts with it yet. I'll let you know how it goes.
