I'll have to call him and find out where it came from. I thought the surplus version of this powder dried up a long time ago.

Just got off the phone with Dan at Hi-tech. Great guy if you haven't had the chance to deal/speak with him.

Specs on the 8208 are:

It is from a lot of 1983 5.56 ammo they got to pulldown. This was m193 Special Ops ammo with a headstamp not many would recognize. Hi-tech is selling the cases, the pulled bullets and the powder from these.

They are having a tough time keeping the 8208 in stock as the benchrest shooters have figured out it is the same era stuff as the thunderbird lot that was so popular. He has 7 or 8 cases in stock and a couple thousand pounds left to pull down.

Get your orders in now guys, its the real thing and won't last very long.

On the other hand, Will, I would let the powder be, to allow the BR folks to pick it up. But to be fair, the BR fellow should return the favor and supply you with the new version made in Aussie, pound for pound. The new version has the chemical to make the powder more consistent weather wise. BR folks don't care about that in the least because they load for the condition on-hand before the relay starts which they would do anyway. ... felix

With The thunderbird stuff commanding near $300 a keg with BR shooters, I'm buying as much of this as I can afford at $98 and figure if they want it bad enough, I'll either get enough to buy whatever powder I want or a really good exchange rate :)

That's the idea, Will. ... felix

IMR8208 is not the same burning rate as the older 8208. IMR states not to use their data with the surplus powder.
I do have some of the new IMR8208.

The new is slightly slower, reported to be about 1 or 2 grains in the PPC case. Would be better in the BR case. ... felix
