I just finished my first casting session.

It was a learning experience that I really enjoyed. I was using two 6 hole Lee moulds and a bottom pour Lee pot, all brand new as was I.

I cast about 300 bullets,.38 and .45acp, of which I kept 223. I couldn't wait to see if they would actually fit a piece of my brass, so I went out to the bench and just loaded a dummy round of acp and it looked just like it was supposed too. Now, if they will just shoot.

I am stoked to say the least, so I know for sure that I better intensify my ww lookin' as I only have about 1500lbs and I can tell that ain't nearly enough.

1500lbs of lead only makes about 52,500 200 grain boolits.

It is is fun isn't it? I would recommend waiting just a bit before loading your new boolits. The lead hardens up in a week or two and won't get reduced in diameter when you seat the boolit. Have a great time. 1500 lbs of WW will make a very good pile of ingots. I loaded up some new boolits when I first started casting and it didin't work out too well.

Congrats on your first cast! Yeah, this stuff is addictive! I don't even want to shoot any store-bought bullets. Heck, if someone gave me some cast boolits, I'd probably melt them down make my own!

I agree on the addictive part. My first casting should have read "Our first casting" as I included my 17yr old son on the learning process and he soon took over the process as I watched. He was excited about it and I think that he will likely continue with enthusiasm as he loves to shoot his 1911's and this will make it even more affordable and fun.

I sure wish my Dad had been interested in guns, reloading and casting as I would not be 50yrs old and having just finished my first casting session.
