View Full Version : 44 special 310gr loads?

Guys,
Generally speaking, .44 specal loads are pretty mild when compared to .44 mag loads. I want to approximate mag velocities (@ 800-1000 fps) using .44 special brass, and the Lee 310gr GC bullet.
Here's the deal. I have a Taurus m-44 stainless that will not accept magnum length loads using the Lee bullet. They are simply too long at the ojive, and impinge on throat of the chambers. I do not wish to alter the gun. I do not own any .44 spl guns, so no worries there.
Can anyone suggest any PROVEN loads they have used? I thought I'd just start with minimum mag loads, but decided to check in here first. I don't need any real rompem-stompem loads, just something to give a bit of penetration with this revolver.
As a note, I've fired this gun with some pretty warm 240-250gr loads without any trouble. I'm just looking for a shorter OAL.
Can anyone help me out?

The minmum 44 Mag loads is a good approach, but without anyone knowing what your OAL would be you might not get too much info. Compare those minimum loads to heavy 44 special data before you start.

Good point.
I cobbled up a dummy round. OAL is gonna be about 1.475" That means the bullet will be in the case about .500 Is this any help?

Brian Peace recently wrote about that size in his 44 spl but i'm not sure if he got into load details.
