I recently purchased a BRP mould with two designs in it. A 250 grain and a 200 grain both for my .338 win magnum.

I only have the Lyman 3rd edition which has a few loads in it for the 338, all pistol powders. I'd prefer to use IMR 4895 if possible. I assume this is since Lyman lists 4895 in the loads for the 340 Weatherby. I was thinking the starting loads for the Weatherby maybe safe reduced 10%???

Can anyone recommend receipes for the 338 win mag using 250 and 200 grain boolits?

Thanks.

Beginning a couple months back I started experimenting with CB loads for my 338 winmag. I have been wanting to use either Trail Boss or 5744. So far I have been very impressed with the results.
Currently I am casting the gas checked Lee 220 gr boolit and using liquid Alox for lube. A 95% full load of Trail Boss produces an MV of 1640 fps and MOA groups at 100 yds which gives me a big smile. If I want to go to a hotter load for hunting with CB's I will use about 29 gr of 5744 which give an MV of about 1850 fps and can go up from there.
A 75% load of Trail Boss gave a velocity of about 1400 but the boolits were not stabilized and many were going sideways at 40 yards.
BTW - my powder measure for the Trail Boss is an empty 45-70 case which is almost exactly a 95% load. Super simple.

I use 4759. My loads run about 2,200 fps. I shoot an Accurate moulds 34-240B

36-41 grains of IMR 3031 and Lee 220 GC is a Cracker Jack Load.
39 is where it is at in my Model 70, and about 1800 FPS.

rockrat, how much 4759 are you stoking in that case, details, man details. The devil is in the details, and what distance did you shoot that group shown on your target.

Lee 220 grain boolit has shot much better for me so far than the 200 grain RCBS.

32.5 gr of 4759 in my Rem 700 @100yds. Pretty well a max load. Lubed with LBT soft @.340". The same boolit without a very thin coating of LLA would open up to about 1.5". I mean thin coating. LLA diluted about 6/1 Mineral spirits/LLA. About 40 boolits in a container and about 10 drops of the thinned LLA, tumbled and let dry for a couple of days. You can't see the coating, but you can feel it.

So...no one has used 4895? I was hoping to use what I have on hand. I figured 4895 was going to be easy to find a load with such it is so widly used.
