I bought a 311291 mould and had the top fly cut to get rid of the gas check. It only required a .060" washer under the pivot screw to make up the difference. It casts and shoots very well. I would like to try the heavier 311299 mould with the same surgery. But before I buy it, I would like to know if, beside the longer nose, is there any other difference such as body or nose diameter? The 311291 nose is a slight push into the bore, and I was hoping the 311299 would be similar.

Why not just remove the rim that makes the gas check shank, then you are not reducing the length?

My recent vintage Lyman 311299 casts .301"x.311".

What diameters does your 311291 cast?

123.DieselBenz - I have had two moulds ruined by "proffesionals" trying to ream out the base. Both off center. One was a big name mould maker.

excess650 - What alloy? If it's close to #2 those measuremants would be spot on to my 311291 - Thanks

For what the possible cost may be, ruined mold or machine time cost, a new custom mold can be made to your specs. Robert

NOT TRUE, at least for me, fly cutting cost me nothing. A new Lyman mould is $67. A custom mould to the specs which I have already proven proper for my firearm $100 (+ or - ) + shipping + no guarantee as to the exact size.
