Got 40 pounds of indoor 22 rimfire range lead from our sand trap. I plan on smelting it this spring when doing more wheel weights.

What are you guys doing with unknown range lead?

I was thinking of donating it to the Boy Scouts for Pine Wood Derby cars and fishing weights.

I have no idea on hardness at this time...

It's going to be pretty close to pure. I would cast with it like I would any soft PB.

this is usually pretty soft lead good for lighter loads and if soft enough for black powder applications , also good for fishing weights i reccomend melting it in one batch, pour into ingots , test hardness and sell it here and donate the $ to the scouts . if you dont have a tester, if it scratches easily with a fingernail , it is considered soft lead ...or donate it to the scouts .. have a good day

It'll be soft and works excellent for 50/50 WW-lead cast boolit needs. The idea of selling here and donating the $$$ to the boyscouts is a good idea if you are wishing to help the organization.

cheese1566,
The range scrap that I get, I melt it down and turn it back into boolits. My range scrap is usually a mix of .22's, jacketed and soft and hard cast. I use this mix straight or cut it 50/50 with pure lead and it seems to work OK for target and plinking loads for .38's and .45 ACP's.
You mentioned helping out the Boy/Cub Scouts out. A couple of weeks back I was helping some Cub Scouts with their Pinewood derby cars. I stopped by one of my regular WW stops and asked if I could buy some new stick-ons for the kid's cars so we could use the tape to make the lead stick to the cars. The manager offered me about 2/3 to 3/4 of a full box of stick-ons. I laughed and said that 3 strips would be enough. I broke my rule of never turning away free lead.

Makes excellent lower end velocity loads (1400- fps). It probably has some antimony in it and the bullets will harden if WQ'd. However I like to use it for low end HP bullets. It worked in .22LRs at 1000 to 1400 (depending on the ammo) fps so no reason it won't work just as well with properly cast bullets. I use javelina or LLA on my bullets of that alloy.

The last 1200 lbs of indoor 22 LR,L,S only lead I got tested at 6.5 on my Lee BHN tester.
Hope this helps.

22 boolits are swaged and usually have 1.5% antimony in them.
just add them to the ww's at a ratio of 3-1 ww's to range.
a swager could also use them for cores.
it's good stuff if you know what it is.
if it's just range scrap you gotta check the hardness and add to it, to keep a consistent bhn.
