Anyone here had a trapdoor barrel relined? Looking for someone that will preform the work on this original Springfield. thanks ahead of time.

The only reline for a trapdoor that I ever saw was the original conversions from .58 rifled
muskets. The only original one I saw had a damaged muzzle area where the liner was
separated, not sure if it was faulty gunsmithing or some sort of mechanical damage.

Best of luck.

The nice thing about the 45-70 Trapdoor is that a rebarrel is fairly easy. Easy enough it may be cheaper than a reline. You could also check for original barrels here.

Let us know how it works out.

Check with High Plains Reboring and Barrels, Norm Johnson, He usually has an ad in RIFLE Magazine.

He did an old stevens for my Bro-in-Law, came out pretty good.

If your talking about an original length trapdoor barrel I think you may have trouble finding someone willing to re-line it due to the relatively thin barrel wall at the muzzle. My 2¢.

Like no-horse says, bobby hoyt is the man. he has re-lined Springfields, Zouaves, smith carbines, Henry and much more. He also stands by his work. jim

I have done a few. Get a liner from T.J.'s, I think he is the only one with a three groove liner. I have a three groove liner in stock but not sure how long it is. I can also get a three groove barrel if you want to go that way. Did one for myself.

I am asking for a buddy. We have Bob Boyd and Mike Sayers of KY and will check tomorrow on pricing and scheduling. John Taylor, I sent you a PM.
