I have a 03 that I inherited from my dad and it is a bad sporter. I would like to remove the very old and cheap Bushnell scope and put a peep sight on it and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions, its a late model with the stamped floor plate.

I have a full stocked military 03A3 with battle sights that work well for me. You can find the stock battle sights or get a Lyman 48? etc. Check http://www.surplusrifle.com http://www.jouster.com/forums/ http://www.milsurps.com/index.php Lots of good info there as well as here. You will find alot of help from the members too.

I think ALL 1903A3s had stamped floor plates, 1903s had the milled ones.

Try finding an original 03A3 rear peep, it is a pretty good unit and will serve you
well.

HMM. It just occurred to me that the rear dovetail mount may have been milled off
of your gun. Does the rear receiver ring have a dovetail on top? If not, you will
need a commercial peep sight, which mounts on the right side of the rear receiver
ring.

03 sight was in front of rec. 03-A3 on top of rear ring on dovetail. Most if not all aftermarket rear scope mounts are cut out and fit over dove tail. May have drilled/tapped hole in it now- no big deal. Mil sight cheap and works great, tap right back on.

BillI believe it has been milled, appears to be an old two piece weaver base attached to a rounded receiver. Are the Williams receiver sights as good as the Lymans?

No, but their FP sight isn't all that bad.

Odis.. You really need to post a pic of the rear receiver bridge, so we can see it it has been modified or is still in military configuration.
