I have an 1894 Marlin in .44 mag, old eyes and a 1-3.5 Weaver scope.
I have gone through three bases (2 Weaver and one pic style from Midway) and 2 sets of Weaver rings (double-strap type and a set of Grand Slam rings).
None of the rings will mate solidly with the bases.
I'd like to know what combination of base & rings have been successfully used on an 1894.
No hurry, re-barrel pending, plenty of time to ponder what the qc people were doing when my rifle was being built. lc

Last week I was asking the local gunshop if they had any Burris, or Leupold bases for a Marlin 94. They said that they did not make any mounts for this gun. They said that they did have a Weaver mount for it though. I just hate weaver rings. Does anyone know if Burris, or Leupold makes bases for these guns.

Warne Maxima bases and rings.

The Warne Maxima is good.
I prefer the Weaver base and the Millett Angle Loc rings. This combination has stood the test of many years on a Winchester Model 94 Timber carbine. This rifle has a stout recoil impulse and the scope has never moved. I have more Weaver Base - Millett ring sets on my scoped levers than any other.

I have found the Redfield type base with the windage screws to be a fragile mount on lever-action rifles. I know others like them and have had good service but I have not. I had a Redfield mount kick-off the 444 Marlin Timber rifle in 3 shots.

Leupold makes a one size fits all base for Marlins and uses regular Leupold (Redifeld) rings.

I'll look at some Warne stuff manana at Cabels's in Ft Worth.

Biggest problem right now is I need a mold to drop, say, .433 or .434 and a .432 sizer die. I envision having to drill and tap the bullet base and attaching gas checks with a screw (groan).

I use Weaver Quad-Locks and a 63B base on all my Marlins. Not sure why you have had a problem. I have this combo on 28 Marlin rifles.

I also use the Weaver 63B and various Weaver Rings on my Marlins. I like the Weaver quad lock rings the best. They hold tight on my 1895GG with heavy loads, with no problems. I figure if they can hold up to heavy 45-70 loads, they will work well on any other caliber. The only time I ever had a problem locking my rings down on a rifle, my scope bell was hitting the rear sight. I wasn't paying close attention

I took a Leupold 336 base and re-drilled and tapped it to fit the 1895. I have a 3-9x40 Leupy on a 44 mag and did not like only having a little over 2 3/4 inches between scope rings on that long of a scope. I think that modified 336 mount works better than anything I was able to find locally.

Never had a problem with Weavers on my 1894's.

I had never heard of Weaver Quad Locks, until now. I looked them up, and they look like they will work perfectly. Thanks for the help guy's.

I've used Weaver one piece bases on my 1895, 336, and 1894s. As of late my preference in rings is Burris Signature with the changeable inserts(nylon that grips the scope and is self aligning like pillow block bearings), but have used Millett Angle Lock and generic Weaver types without ever having a scope move.

There are picatinny type rails available for the Marlins that have numerous cross slots to allow rings to be positioned as necessary.

Another solution is to look for scopes with lots of eye relief. I have a Nikon 1.65-5x Slughunter and spec is 5" eye relief!
