I was just at Jeff Bartletts site looking over powder selections and saw this:

SR4759 This powder is non-canister, known as SR7641. It is a bulky, very fine,
clone extruded/flake type powder, that meters great. Has a burning rate very
similar to SR4759. Uses the same data as SR4759.
This is pulldown powder.
$54/5# jug.
If your a fan of SR4759, it might be worth a look...Ray

With this slim price difference I think I'll stay with IMR SR4759?

..............Ray appreciate the info! A few months ago Bartlett had a bit of SR4759 and I went ahead and got 24 lbs of it then. I actually wished I could have seen my way clear to get 6 jugs instead of 4!

So this is coming in 5 lbs to the jug and not 6?

..........Smokemjoe, if you're asking about the surplus SR4759 it's just like canister SR4759. I don't know about the SR7641.

SR4759 - SR7641 could be just like IMR3031 and IMR4475. I got ome of the surp IMR4475 because to was sold as being 'like' IMR3031. In a load for load test the 2 were similar enough to be the same powder. Differences being easily within lot to lot variations. Or put another way, use the surplus just like IMR3031 loading manual data.

If so, SR7641 is in that realm of old time favorite cast boolit powders of IMR4227, SR4759, and IMR4198 for use in the full power type cartridges.

I just ordered 2 jugs of it. After ordering, Jeff sent an e-mail saying that it is in fact in 6 lb jugs.

Definitely worth getting some. Because it is different in dimensions, treat it as a different powder when comparing it to 4759. In other words, the volume in the case might be different for the same weight, and, if so, go by weight. I haven't seen a flake powder in that speed range for years. Strange duck, but that means nothing, really. I would be interested in comparing its VOLUME with 700X or HERCO, both of which are equal in fluffyness. ... felix

I am interested in some of this powder to replace my 4759 loads. What does this powder look like, and is it a grain for grain equivalent?

If anybody could take a picture of it, I would be appreciative.
Thanks Greg S

Curse you all!! You reminded me I needed some powder and Jeff Bartlett just took $350 from me. I bought IMR 4227 and WC 680. I would have liked to have bought another 2 or 3 thousand dollars worth but can't afford it. I think 4227 is my favorite cast bullet powder.

I;m sorry I dont have a digital camara but I will try to describe the powder.I recived a 6 pounder just last week from Jeff.

My package says " SR4759 " (7641) lot # UNK.

This powder I recived is a sort of greenish gold colored extruded powder with a center perferated hole through the middle of extruded kernal. This powder is very small with a length from .025 -.035" long and diameters rangeing in the .025 - .030 " range.... It has a modest solvent odor to it .... not over powering at all.

That said I have not had a chance to try it yet.... I bought it just in case I decided to jump into CB's in my 30 cal rifles..... looks like that will happen.

I'm sorry but I do not have any commercial SR 4759 here to do a direct comparrison with appearence wise.

Hope this helps some .
