View Full Version : "Evil Roy" range report
Finally got to go shoot my new Evil Roy .45 Colt yesterday.
Boolits were cast 3-1 WW pure. Sized to .454, and lubed with 50/50.
They weighed in at 274. Loaded in new WW brass with 6.0 titegroup, and sparked with a Rem. primer.Fist four shots over the chrony were
772
775
776
794
After about 20 rnds i shot off sandbags at 25 yards, and got a group that was around 1.5" except for the one shot i pulled(5 shots total)
Gun and load shot pretty close to POA
I think i will try 6.5gr next to get the speed up a little.
850-900 maybe. I am happy with the gun so far!:)
Oh yeah. boolit is an RCBS 270-SAA:castmine:

Sounds like you and your load are on track. Lots of fun huh? They are very nice revolvers.

I like Titegroup in my.45 Colts, but started to have problems in the 825-850 fps arena in several pistols shooting 255 grain boolits at 13 bhn, depending on your alloy and gun the boolits start to skid at a certain point. If you have issues approaching 850 fps go down one powder burn level (I'd suggest Clays) and work up again. I'd suggest HS6, since it works so well for all my full-power SAA loads, but it will shoot 3-4 inches higher than your Titegroup loads.

didn't think to snap any pics of the targets.
I'll try to chrony the next loads of 6.5gr titegroup and get some pics(if they are worthy!)

waco:
I forgot to tell ya. If you bring your receipt for your new piece to the EEGC, and show it
when you check in, you will get to shoot for "FREE".
I was the Rangemaster yesterday, Saturday, and a fella had brought a receipt in from
the Gun Pro store in Springfield and ask me about this. I smiled and said "yes sir". He
smiled back, and got to shoot his new firearm for FREE.

5 grs clays and 6 grs titegroup seemed to be identical in my usfa's as far as poi was concerned.
the clays load is pushing the pressure with a 270gr boolit though.
if i wanted more speed i'd look at a slower powder.
hs-6 or herco to keep pressures down.
thats the same alloy i like to use with or without a splash of tin [usually with]
