.............A kind of Turkish K98. Built on the indigenous K. Kale large ring/small barrel shank action.

Actually a quite nice rifle, 24" barrel.

Front sight with it's protective wings. Adjutment is through the square hole in either wing.

Hard to see in the photo but the underside of the bolt knob is milled flat, and there is a relief routing in the stock under it.

Action is typical M38. Marked T.C, ASFA, K. Kale, then ANKARA. Under that is a date of 1944. The blued buttplate with the brass screws is kinda pretty.

All the numbers match which is a bit unusual for the typical Turks, but I've not seen that many M38/46's. As was found on some Turks, this one has a rather nice piece of walnut. It was kept from being really nice by only half hearted finishing.

The rifle is a very fine shooter with an at least VG bore. I have 4 Turk rifles and I was lucky in that only one had a weak (but shootable) bore. The other 3 are very tight, requiring a cast boolit be sized to .323 or .3235", Otherwise they get scraped up in the throat, or set back into the case. This is the one I split the stock at the wrist, working my 240gr slug up to 2300 fps. Wasn't real bad and was readily repaired.

Turks were as common as fleas on a hound dog here some years ago. Never got one. I must get an 8x57mm to round off my military rifle collection ( not a collection, more of a gaggle, or to use the term used for a group of rhinos, a crash or military rifles). Looks good Buckshot.

That is a sweet little carbine, Buckshot!

I had a VZ33 and your load of 240gr at 2300fps scares me to death!

I used to shoot 238gr 323378's in the VZ at 1900 and THAT was enough kick out of that wee rifle.

Go you good thing!:drinks:

..............Jeff I would be less then honest if I didn't say I was very glad when I saw a number over 2300 on the chronograph screen :-)!

Kinda reminded me of the time I decided to shoot my 577-450 M-H with BP just to say I had. I knew the original charge was 85.0grs but I also knew people said, "No air space" between the charge and the boolit. I was using a 450gr Lee as the closest weight I had to a 480gr.

I had 120grs of GOEX 2Fg in the case, compressed as best I could in a BN cartridge. Then some COW, about 4 cardwads (tablet backer stuff) a grease cookie and then the slug, which I STILL had to seat a bit deeper then I'd have liked.

Now the MkIV Martini really isn't a heavyweight rifle. By the time I had fired off 5 rounds, the left side of the stock was covered in slobber, I had a snotty nose and I was the only guy at the range who could clap his own shoulder blades together.

I was also actively advertising the fact that I would PAY someone to please fire off the remaining 15 rounds.

240 gr. at 2300 FPS is pretty stout. I think my loads with a ~250 grain at 1800 FPS are very mild, though.
